Carsington Water

The area surrounding the reservoir has been sensitively landscaped to provide good access and with conservation in mind. Waymarked footpaths and routes allow access on foot, bike or horseback - maps are available in the centre. Various car parks are provided as are picnic areas, barbecue facilities, public toilets etc.

Some half a million trees and shrubs have been planted on the site and have matured considerably fitting naturally into the landscape. The woodlands are managed by a team of wardens to maximise their potential for wildlife and the landscape.

There are two bird hides and a wildlife centre to help visitors understand and study the variety of wildlife of the area and in particular observe the birdlife that resides at or visits the reservoir.

There are facilities for a range of outdoor activities. Numerous walks and cycle routes take you round the site and cycle hire is available. There is a sailing club as well as a watersports centre offering hire of canoes, sailing dinghies, windsurfers etc.as well as instruction and sales and hire of sailing and cycling equipment. Launching facilities are available for your own dinghy or windsurfer.

The reservoir is stocked for fishing either from the bank or boats available for hire.

There is a large adventure playground and numerous open spaces for families to relax. There is full access for the disabled apart from some items of play equipment and paths that may be muddy on occasion.
