Caving The Sherwood Caving Club was formed in 1970 with a few friends, Richard Walker, Stuart Phillips and my name is Glenn.
I started caving in February 1962 with a Nottingham Caving Club. My first mine/cave was Odin's Mine at Castleton. I remember it well. I said I would never go again. I think people feel like that, but something makes them go again. It takes me back to The Club Mag for 1985 when the departing President Tony O'Dowd, said about me and caving. "Where would we be now if we hadn't fallen fowl of the silken tongue and all embracing arm of the man who simply does not know the meaning of the word "NO" unless he is saying it himself. Guess who? All these years of experience in cajoling and provoking ordinary folk into doing what they really believe to be the sole preserve of "nutters" . In conclusion thanks for the memory". Tony 1983. Tony is still a good friend of mine after all these years. The Sherwood Caving Club and its offshoots, walking and biking all followed the same vein, good things to do with friends and friends of friends. That is why over 600 people have been caving alone, without the rest of the activities we do. We now only go caving in the Summer months in small groups. Everything is done in a very professional way whatever we do, but everybody enjoys themselves. |
